LGBTQ+ law, Pride and community history3
  1. Nepal's Supreme Court ordered broad recognition and protection of sexual and gender minorities in 2007,
  2. and the 2015 Constitution expressly protected gender and sexual minorities.
  3. An interim Supreme Court order enabled the first same-sex marriage registration in 2023, but a comprehensive equal-marriage law and consistent implementation remain unfinished.

Nepal is legally exceptional in South Asia. Same-sex relations have long been decriminalised, gender and sexual minorities have constitutional recognition, and on 18 June 2026 the Supreme Court issued a final marriage-equality ruling.
