Lebanon is an eastern Mediterranean country whose most visible cultural and nightlife layer is centered on Beirut and its surrounding urban districts.
Queer History
Helem was established in 2004 and became the Arab world's first registered LGBTQ+ rights organization, anchoring community support and advocacy in Beirut. A 2018 appeals ruling held that consensual same-sex relations were not unlawful, but official restrictions and attacks on LGBTQ+ gatherings intensified again in 2023.
Beirut has long supported queer cultural and nightlife spaces, but legal and security conditions remain restrictive and can shift quickly. AFTERORA links only verified public business and community channels; private groups are never exposed.
