- HBTQI is the common Swedish umbrella abbreviation corresponding broadly to LGBTQI.
- “bög” commonly means gay man. It can be neutral or reclaimed in-community, but tone and context matter.
- “flata” commonly refers to a lesbian. It may be reclaimed by some speakers but can sound harsh outside the right context.

- “queer” is also used in Swedish, including as an identity that challenges norms around gender, sexuality or relationships.
- “regnbågs-” means “rainbow-” and appears in names such as Regnbågshuset and regnbågsfamilj.
- Outside the largest cities, queer life is often organised through RFSL branches, municipal meeting places, Pride groups and recurring events rather than dedicated commercial venues.
