Trinidad and Tobago LGBTQ+ Country Guide

1834-08-01 — The British Emancipation Act took effect; apprenticeship continued after formal emancipation.

1838 — The apprenticeship system ended, completing emancipation.

1962-08-31 — Trinidad and Tobago became independent. Both islands form the nation and have distinct local histories.

1976-08-01 — The country became a republic; Republic Day is celebrated on September 24, when the first republican Parliament met.

2018 — PrideTT began coordinating national Pride celebrations with community partners.

2025-03-25 — The Court of Appeal overturned the High Court decision. Do not rely on older guides that describe permanent decriminalisation.

2026-10-03 — The Privy Council case page says “Awaiting judgment,” following a July 8, 2026 hearing. Pride events do not remove the legal risk from the restored prohibitions.

2026 — PrideTT’s official site presents the 2026 theme “One Journey, Many Stories.” Check its current programme for dates and venues.

WLW (WLW) — “Women who love women”; the Women’s Caucus uses this community wording. It is broader than a single identity and is not an admission rule.

PrideTT (PrideTT) — The name of the national Pride coordinating committee, not a fixed club or a guarantee that every Carnival event is LGBTQ+.

mas (mas) — A Carnival performance context, as in CAISO’s Mas Healing Workshop. Participation alone does not establish a venue’s LGBTQ+ relevance.

Caution means privacy precautions are needed. Needs checking means country access or current information is unverified. Safety information only links to guidance, without claiming local service availability. Currently unavailable describes the observed channel, not a permanent closure. No popularity ranking is claimed.

WhatsApp · CAISO / Silver Lining — A local organization publishes a business WhatsApp contact. Use only the channel named on its official page; this is not a popularity claim.

Boycode · public business contact — An official community or organizer resource. Check dated announcements and ask before attending; an organization is not automatically a public venue.

Grindr privacy resources — Official privacy guidance is linked. Local app access, availability in national app stores and popularity were not tested.

Google Maps — Google Maps place cards in this country were inspected on 5 October 2026. Displayed weekly hours are recorded in the candidate audit. A map listing alone does not establish LGBTQ+ relevance or public access.

SearchinTT — Country-specific review listings provide discovery leads and dated visitor reports. Category labels and annual page headings do not verify LGBTQ+ identity or current opening.

Island eTickets — Country-specific review listings provide discovery leads and dated visitor reports. Category labels and annual page headings do not verify LGBTQ+ identity or current opening.

Limit location and distance visibility; avoid posting your hotel or live venue location.

Keep dating photos separate from work and family accounts; ask before photographing other visitors.

Check the organizer and ticket destination before paying. Do not send money, identity documents or cryptocurrency to an unverified online contact.

Meet first in a staffed public place, keep control of your return transport and agree the fare or booking details beforehand.

Recheck opening hours, address and admission rules before travelling. A map listing or legal reform does not guarantee a safe welcome.
