Queer History
Canada partially decriminalized consensual same-sex relations in 1969, but police raids and the federal LGBT Purge continued to shape community resistance and Pride organizing. Federal human-rights protection added sexual orientation in 1996, equal marriage became national law in 2005, and the government formally apologized for historic state discrimination in 2017.
